Once again to start the new school year, the Rotary Club of Margaret River are sponsoring an initiative
for Year One students living in the Shire of Augusta – Margaret River.
The program is called Reading Rabbits and encourages students to read on a regular basis,
by giving them prizes every fifth and tenth time they borrow a book from one of the Shire’s libraries.
All Year One students in the Shire will receive a Reading Rabbits pack when the Shire librarians visit
the schools over the next few weeks. The pack will include general library information, colouring
in and a special reading rewards voucher card. Every time the student borrows from the library,
their Reading Rabbits card will be stamped and prizes will be awarded as incentives. When the
student has ten stamps, they will receive a $10 book voucher to the Margaret River Bookshop, where
they can find the new Reading Rabbits display.
This program will promote a love of books and reading and it is hoped that students will be encouraged
to use both their school and public libraries. Reading Rabbits stamps will be only awarded at
the Shire public libraries, however.
Reading Rabbits is supported by The Shire of Augusta-Margaret River Library Service, The Margaret River Bookshop and Scholastic Australia.
